Funding Update

We have recently received a generous grant from one of our key partners in Dominica. This money puts us in a good position to move forward with the Place of Safety and complete the remaining building works.

This money will help to cover building costs, but we still need your support in raising funds to purchase furniture and equipment.

We encourage you to donate to this vital project and help us open the doors to abused, abandoned and neglected children in Dominica.

Welcome

Welcome to the Dominica Place of Safety blog. Action for Children works in the UK and internationally to improve the lives of vulnerable children. As well as our 500 projects in the UK which help 178,000 children, young people and their families, we also support work to improve the lives of children and young people in 23 countries across the Caribbean, Southern Africa, and Eastern Europe. We need your help to complete a groundbreaking project on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean.

Action for Children staff in Dominica are currently in contact with abandoned and abused children who are in need of dedicated care and protection, while efforts are made to find loving homes. For example, one child is currently living in a hospital because she has nowhere else to go.

The Dominica 'Place of Safety' will be the first ever 24 hour residential home for abused and abandoned children on this Caribbean island. The home will be able to look after 100 children each year, giving them a secure and loving place of refuge. We have started work on the building, and now we need your help to complete and equip it.

This is the first project of its kind, and it is absolutely vital that we complete it as soon as possible, because right now we know of victims of abuse and homeless children who have nowhere safe to go.
